延期英文是 postpone（聽發音），動詞用法，與 delay（聽發音）這個單字相當類似，都有把事情往後延的意思，postpone 這個單字有＂延期、推遲、順延、改期＂等意思，delay 則有＂延遲、延誤、耽擱＂的意思，相較之下，這兩個英文單字僅是類似而不是完全一樣，delay 有比較多一點負面的延期意味，在使用時機上要稍作拿捏，一般口語上說的活動順延使用 postpone 就可以了。
