argue 的名詞寫成 argument（聽發音），可以用來表示＂爭論、論點、論據、理由、爭執、道理、辯詞＂等意思，例如不必要的爭論英文可以說 unnecessary argument。
除了 argue 之外，其實英文裡還有好幾個單字可以用來表示爭論的意思，例如 debate（聽發音）或 controversy（聽發音），其中 debate 用起來與 argue 很類似，可以當名詞或動詞使用，例如公開的辯論英文是 public debate，而 controversy 是爭論、爭議或論戰的意思，只能當名詞使用。
