在美國其實是不允許老師體罰學生的，所以其實在美國並沒有罰站這種做法，更沒有罰站的英文說法，有一種說法叫 stand in the corner for a punishment 或 stand in the corner as a punishment，中文意思是為了被處罰而站在牆角，比較類似我們台灣人說的罰站，不過這種罰站的方式被許多人拿出來探討，就有人問「Do you agree standing a child in the corner for punishment is cruel?」意思是詢問「你同意讓孩子為了被處罰而在牆角罰站是殘酷的？」，現在美國比較流行 Time Out 的做法，所謂的 Time Out 是一種教育方式，非體罰，而是要孩子停下手邊或眼前正在做的錯誤事情，冷靜下來思考，據說這種教育方式更能達到讓孩子從錯誤中學習的效果。
