其實 Britain 是英國的簡稱，英國的全名很長是大不列顛及北愛爾蘭聯合王國，全名英文是 United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland，應該很少人會用這麼長的全稱來稱呼英國，所以經常簡稱為聯合王國，也就是 United Kingdom，縮寫為 UK，也可以稱之為不列顛，即 Britain，也就是我們俗稱的英國，為什麼英國會有這麼複雜的名稱呢？因為英國其實是個相當複雜的國家，包含了英格蘭 England、蘇格蘭 Scotland、威爾斯 Wales 和北愛爾蘭 Northern Ireland 這四個國家聯合而成，是一個位於西歐的島國。
